Villő Kormos was relieved after she had been informed of being qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games. The Hungarian diver finished in 21st place in the World Cup in February, which was not enough for automatic qualification. However, FINA has reapportioned the unused quotes recently, and decided Kormos can take part in the games.
„I was not 100 percent sure in the positive decision, but I thought I had a good chance for that. I have been very busy since the World Cup, because I competed in the Hungarian and the European Championship, but no question the highlight of the year will be the olympics” – said Kormos, who will be the only Hungarian diver in the games.
Rio and the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center will be familiar for the 27-year-old athlete, since the World Cup was held there as well.
„It was good to get acquainted with the circumstances, and I can say it will be great to return there.”
Kormos is preparing for her third olympics, as she took part in the 2004 and the 2008 games as well. Her aim is to get to the semifinal in Rio, but she thinks she can also reach the final if everything goes well. In 2016 it is all about the olympics, but Kormos has another event in her mind too: the 2017 FINA World Championships.
„I remember well to the 2006 and the 2010 European Championships, both were held in Budapest. The atmosphere was great, and in the brand new Dagály Pool it will be even fantastic. The new pool also means better training conditions for the Hungarian divers, because in the near future we will have the chance to have trainings in 10 metre platform all year as well, which is not the case yet in the country.”
