Rita Drávucz has a good memory regarding a domestic sport event. Former Hungarian water polo player was part of the Hungarian women’s team that won the gold medal in the 2001 European Championships in Budapest.

„We had a new head coach, former world and olympic champion Tamás Faragó, and we had to prove for the fans after failing to qualify for the previous olympic games in Sydney. The system was quite different, as we had to play 5 games in 7 days. The tournament was one of the best in my career. The atmosphere was like now during the football EC: football players have united the Hungarian society with their performance, 15 years ago we, water polo players did the same” – Drávucz said.

Drávucz and the Hungarian women, still led by Tamás Faragó, also won the world championships in 2005 in Montreal.

„The situation was very similar. We finished only in 6th place in the olympic games in Athens, and we had to give a response for that. In the end we managed to do that.”

Rita Drávucz of course would be happy to compete in the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, but actually she retired after the London Olympic Games in 2012. However, she will support the Hungarian athletes and teams in as many venues as possible.

„I have been in the neighborhood of the new Dagály complex recently, and I like it very much. It will look fantastic when it’s finished, I even took a photo of it with my mobile phone. This event will be a beuatiful experience for the athletes, the coaches and the fans as well.”
