Balatonfüred is well prepared for the FINA/HOSA Open Water Swimming World Cup.

Balatonfüred is well prepared for the FINA/HOSA Open Water Swimming World Cup.

István Bóka, mayor of the city said there are more and more parking places and hotel rooms in Balatonfüred, and the city’s development will be even more intensive in the near future.

„We have built a special stand for 250 spectators, which stands in the water, and its capacity will be extended to 2500 for the 2017 World Championships” – the mayor added.

„No wind, no rain, good luck” - Tamás Gyárfás, president of the Hungarian Swimming Federation said, as he wished good weather for the athletes in the World Cup.

„This weekend is all about the 2017 World Championships. We have to say thank you for the city of Balatonfüred, that hosted the European Cup twice and the World Cup once, in 2015.”

Andrea Prayer, FINA Open Water Swimming Committee Honorary Secretary said this is a fantastic venue, and he liked the 2015 World Cup very much.

„I have some great memories from last year, so I have returned to Balatonfüred with pleasure. I would like to say thank you for Mr Bóka, the Hungarian Swimming Federation and for Mr Gyárfás, who is a good friend of me, for organising this event in such a high level. To tell you the truth, the other hosts of the World Cup series could learn a lot from them.”

Éva Szántó, general secretary of the Hungarian Swimming Federation and general manager of Bp2017 Nonprofit Ltd., responsible for organising the 2017 FINA World Championships, said, they are testing a lot of things regarding next year’s event, for example the access control and security system, the media, PR and technical activities.

Hungarian head coach Gábor Gellért thinks this World Cup is a very important event, because almost all the best athletes have come to Balatonfüred to take part in it.

„Everyone would like to test this venue before the World Champs, and furthermore, this is the last big event before the European Championships in the Netherlands.

The Hungarian stars had an important role in the press conference as well. Olympic Champion Éva Risztov highlighted: Rio will be her last olympic games, but of course she will take part in the World Champs in Balatonfüred.

„I will stand at the start line, like I could lose nothing. I put all my strength and energy to the next two months. I am happy that the World Cup in Balatonfüred has become such a high standard competition, with outstanding swimmers. The good result is important for me as well, although the lake Balaton is not the perfect model of the Rio location. The waves cannot be „googled” anyway. I cannot prepare for the conditions, I can do it just right there.”

Anna Olasz, world champion in Kazan in the 25 km competition, is very intent as well.

„The 10 km race has always been a priority for me, because it is the olympic event, but I will swim in the 25 km competition as well in the European Championships. This is my first race in open water since October, so my goal is to keep myself to the tactic I have chosen with my trainers together. I skipped the first two World Cups, but I would like to start at three World Cups this summer.”

Márk Papp seemed very happy at the press conference, since he got his quota for the Olympics in Setubal, a couple of days ago. He agreed with his coach to skip the World Cup in Balatonfüred, and will focus on his regeneration.  „This week is for enjoying my quota, but we also plan a 3 week-long training camp right before the games!”- said Papp.

Two-time world champion Haley Anderson highlighted that the location is grandiose, and the organisation is better than in any other World Cup venue!

„ It is very nice to be here, so I can understand that my main rivals are here as well!”
