The unstoppable Katinka Hosszú won the title of the world cup fifth times in a row, the Russian Vladimir Morozov became the champion for the first time in his career
The 2016 FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup has come to its end. In this year, Berlin was again in the list, just like Paris, Moscow, Beijing, Dubai, Doha, Singapore, Tokyo and as the last venue Hong Kong.
In the last round, Katinka Hosszú was again the best and she made the most points. The russian Vladimir Morozov on the second day, instead of the usual 4-5 competitions, he tried himself only in one, which he won. Katinka did not hold herself back in Hong Kong, 10 gold, 2 silver medals.
In this year, there were more swimming contests where in every pool, the same swimmer was named as the winner. In women’s 50 meters freestyle, the danish Jeanette Ottesen could not be beaten by anybody, although in Beijing she shared the first place with the chinese Zhu Menghui. She repeated this bravura in 50 and 100 metres butterfly as well. Katinka Hosszú was supreme in many contests. She stayed unbeatable in 100 meters freestyle, 100 meters backstroke as well as in 100,200 and 400 metres individual medley.
In the men’s tournament the final winner Morozov did not give any chance in 100 meters freestyle and individual medley. The south-african Chad le Clos in his favorite style –butterfly- expropriated the podium’s highest spot in 50 and 100 meters.
The Iron Lady – true to her nickname – won the ladies’ tournament fifth times in a row, Vladimir Morozov won the first time this title.
