Tibor Benedek is convinced there are many favourites in the men’s water polo tournament of the Olympic Games. Former olympic champion, now head coach of the Hungarian team said after the national team’s training, which was open for the press, they are going to Rio to win a medal, but he did not want to go into details.
„We have been training with the Serbian team for a couple of days, and it was really useful. The Serbs are 10 % ahead of the rivals, but they can be defeated too, the difference is not so big.” – Benedek said.
„We still have time before the start of the tournament, we will be faster and stronger. Everyone is all right, so the team can work properly.”
Márton Szivós is preparing for his second olympics, and he is hungry for a good result after failing to win a medal four years ago in London.
„The olympic games are quite different from any other big tournaments. Some people ask us whether we are afraid of the circumstances in Rio or not. All I can say that I sleep under the sky for three weeks, if it is the needed for success…”
„It is worth to ’die’ only for gold, so if someone guaranteed the silver medal for us, I would not accept it.”
Szivós thinks their first match in the olympics against the Serbs will be important, because they can send a message with a win for the rivals. Furthermore, if the Hungarians will have a good result in Rio, they send a message for them in relation to the 2017 FINA World Championships as well…
