The 7577 impatiens planted by disadvantaged children and their families during the International Day of Families with the contribution of Villő Kormos (diver) at the Centenary Memorial will blossom in their glory at the FINA World Championships. The flower bloom planted on Margaret Island -being renewed currently- forms the logo of the 17th FINA World Championships.
Bp2017 World Championship Organising and Managing Nonprofit LLC. joint by Őrangyalok Ligája, MAHART Zrt. and FŐKERT Nonprofit Zrt. organised various programmes on 15 May, 2017, the International Day of Families for disadvantaged families living in Kecskemét.
The whole day programme began with a boat trip for disadvantaged families living in Kecskemét after travelling to Budapest with the help of Őrangyalok Ligája where they could see the attractions and monuments of the capital by the riverbank between Szent Gellért square and Margaret Island. The boat passed for instance Batthyány square which will be the site of the high diving tournament. Those who were more vigilant could also spot the huge building of the Danube Arena from the distance. Villő Kormos, Hungarian diver entering the World Championships and her mother, Lívia Kormos-Tóth entering the Masters Championships took part in the excursion and the programme to plant flowers in the green patches around the Centenary Memorial courtesy of FŐKERT Nonprofit Zrt.
Éva Szántó, Executive Director of Bp2017 World Championship Organising and Managing Nonprofit LLC. told the participants of this programme: „In less than 2 months thousands of people will cheer our athletes right here. We are happy to share the joy of cheering and we welcome you, families, parents and children at this major event. Similar to families, sport is also a great alliance. An alliance where support, cooperation and joint will are crucial aspects. Just as parents can derive great strength from children, children look up to their parents as idols providing them unconditional support. The same applies to sport. I am convinced that without support no major event, no athlete may become successful.”
„The area surrounding the Centenary Memorial has been renewed thanks to the green space development related to the FINA World Championships. It was more than 10 years ago when the area was reconstructed last, but twice a year flower beds are planted. In autumn pansies, in spring annual flowers are planted every year. The emblematic flower bed planting of the 17th FINA World Championships logo was created for this special event but we like it so much that we intend to keep this form in the future” – added Borbála Bíró, head of division for green space development at FŐKERT Zrt.
After changing the soil FŐKERT staff built a drainage layer under the ground to ensure drainage, then they installed metal edges of 300 m total length to enhance the contours and make the logo distinguishable. They implemented an automatic irrigation system and finally they paved lawns by turf rolls in the 505 m2 area surrounding the flowerbed. Works were delivered in approximately 3 weeks, planning had been conducted last winter. More than 7000 annual flower seedlings of special impatiens species were grown at the plantation site of FŐKERT. This type of flowers is a bit demanding (because it requires plenty of water and nutrients) but the sight of this huge flower bloom -with thick leaves blossoming continuously until frost- compensates for the care.
