For 15th place

Canada-South Africa 9-6 (1-2, 4-1, 2-1, 2-2)

Paul Martin, head coach (RSA):

„I’m happy with our performance. We started scoring more goals, just as we made more opportunities for ourselves to go ahead. I’m happy about that. Unfortunately, there’s no real future for us at the moment. We have to consider who plays in our team and do our best.”

For the 13th place

France-United States 8-10 (1-0, 2-3, 3-4, 2-3)

Rémi Garsau (FRA):

„I feel sad and disappointed. We know we played well and we could have beaten the United States. We will keep in mind our game against Canada and we’ll try to walk on it in the future.”

Hrvoje Hrestak, head coach (FRA):

„We weren’t disciplined enough, especially in the second part of the game. We couldn’t make use of our opportunities. We tried to make fast attacks but we often shot too fast. We’re not a young team. The United States could swim faster and better. We couldn’t follow them.”

Alex Bowen (United States):

„It was a very physical game, in the last couple of minutes we could decide it. I am satisfied with this result but about the 13th place I am very embarrased… It could be much better… In the next season I will stay in Miskolc, I am happy to return we have a good team for the next season. The Hungarian championships is the best in the world, I’m happy to continue my growth in Miskolc.”

Dejan Udovicic, head coach (United States):

„This result is ok, I’m satisfied, because it was tough to play that kind of physical game for my young team. It is not easy to come back from a shock what was in the game against Japan. The last quarter of that game put us to this situation… We have four players who will play in Belgrade at the Junior World Championships. We need to work hard, right now we are building up the strategy for the Olympic cycle but we also need to talk with those guys who are not with us this year, Bonnani, Kimbell or John Mann. John was born in 1985 like Dusko Pijetlovic. Pijetlovic is here, why John Mann is not here? He could be. So we should talk about our plans and systems in the future.”

For the 9th-12th places

Brazil-Japan 7-9 (1-3, 3-4, 1-1, 2-1)

Yoji Omoto, head coach (JPN):

„We lost to Brazil in Rio and we wanted to bounce back here. We succeeded. By winning this match we reached Japan’s highest rank in the history of the World Championships. We knew the Brazilian goalkeeper is great and that we couldn’t score many goals, so we concentrated on our defence. Budapest is the mother of water polo and we’re realy happy that we had the chance to play here, especially under these circumstances.”

Angelo Coelho, head coach (BRA):

„It was a very difficult game. We got three goals in two meters. We didn’t play as well as we could have. I hope we will be able to improve ourselves in the future.”

Kazakhstan–Spain 6-18 (0-4, 1-5, 1-3, 4-6)

David Martin, head coach (ESP):

“It was a match that nobody wanted to play, because we got here by losing. But it would be important to finish the championship with two wins, this was the first so we hope that in the next one against Japan we will be in a good position, too.”

In the first quarter final

Montenegro-Greece 7-12 (0-1, 2-5, 1-4, 4-2)

Vladimir Gojkovic, head coach (MNE):

„Congratulations for the Greeks, they played really well today. We only played well in the first quarter, in the second quarter our defense was weaker, we got many exclusions. We knew that Greece is the favourite, but we believed that we could defeat them and play in the semi-final. But after the first quarter they were obviously leading, mainly because of our weak defense.”

Drasko Brguljan (MNE):

„We played really bad. Maybe if we shoot the penalty, or if we lead in the beginning, it could have been different, but we missed out on many chances. But that's how it is, we are in progress as a team. I understand the young players, I don't blame them, his was the first competition for many of them. Greece was stronger, but us, older ones, should've played better.”

Milos Scepanovic (MNE):

„We started off well. Later, we had some chances we didn’t take advantage of, including the 5m penalty shot in the beginning. They afterwards scored in situations that were expected, and that made us slow down. We have a lot of new young players in the team, which is partially the cause of that.”

Theodorus Vlachos, head coach (GRE):

„We did a great game today. I am really proud because Montenegro is a significantly good team and we were really ahead of them. Our defense was really good and that helped us achieve this score.”

Evangelos Delakas (GRE):

„I think we were really concentrated, we were 100% ready and our coach trained us really well for this match. I can't say that we expected this result, but we really did our best and finally achieved this score.”

Serbia-Australia 15-5 (4-1, 4-2, 4-2, 3-0)

Gojko Pijetlovic (SRB):

„We had a really good, solid defense, so I hope we will continue like this. The hardest match so far in the tournament is ahead of us now, we have to prepare mentally and tactically. Now we will see who will be our opponent, but we don't think about who might be an easier rival, we prepare match by match.”

Branislav Mitrovic (SRB):

„We had three days of rest, that's why we started a little bit bad. We had to get back to the rhythm, but then everything was in place again. So far, we haven't played against a really strong opponent, I'm sure in the semi-final we will have a lot more difficult match.”

Elvis Fatovic, head coach (AUS):

„We know that Serbia has a much better team, so it was definitely a deserved win. I feel like we started off too insecure, though, and one of the crucial factors was also our lack of players- 9 of them, to be exact. It is still a huge accomplishment to be in the top 8, but we will still keep on going, and give our best in the next match.”

Andrew Ford (AUS):

„Obviously the final result disappoints us.  We are a really young team but we learned a lot from this World Championship. Our rival, Serbia, had better results and probably fought better than us. The quarter final provided us with a lot of experience. I hope we’ll be able to make use of it.”

M36 - 3rd quarterfinal

Hungary-Russia 14-5 (5-0, 3-1, 3-3, 3-1)

Tamás Märcz, Head Coach (HUN):

"We were very well prepared, we have analyzed all those players who pose a threat. Maybe they're a little tired of playing in a row or confused by the amazing Hungarian audience. I have to admit we played very nice tonight. We disassociated the few players who dominated the Russians. Our defense took good care on their centers, they caused no worries to us. Everyone did their duty, at a very high level.

The game we played was fantastic. We felt that the three-day break had a really good effect on us. We have built up this period perfectly, this is what you can taste on tonight’s play. Against the Greeks will need another scenario, one that we can defeat them. I like the Greeks playing, but I like my team playing more. We want to dictate the rhythm in the semi-finals.”

Dénes Varga (HUN):

"It wasn’t a coincidence in the beginning of the game that we had at 5-0, we focused very well. I was hoping we would be so superior, but I did expect more resistance. It was a good day for us, according to our form. The Greeks are always trying to slow down the opponent, making the offence impotent. We know them well, I hope we can dictate the same kind of pace in the next game, and then we can make it to the final. "

Norbert Hosnyánszky (HUN):

"In the first quarter, we managed to tolerate the burden, the crowd of spectators and turn it to a  positive energy. We enjoyed the game, I felt we had the whole gam at  were down to 6-1. It was a very important station, but not the most important one. Against the Greeks, we will continue to fight like the best way we can. When it’s possible, as well as attacking games and defense and I do hope we can play even better. "

Sergey Evstigneev, head coach (RUS):

„We excpected to lose because the Hungarian team is very good. If we had played faster we woud have had the chance to challenge the hosts. The Hungarian tactics was remarakable. You can only compete if you play with discipline. We didn’t manage to play so today.”

Ivan Nagaev (RUS):

„We totally lost the match.”

M37 - 4th quarterfinal

Croatia-Italy 12-9 (3-2, 2-3, 3-1, 4-3)

Ivica Tucak head coach (CRO):

“It was a tough match as expected against the Italians. The match was almost at the border of an incident, however we were prepared both psychically and physically. In both regards, our players had the maximum performance. We had some mistakes, but we met our goal and ran into the semi-finals. Now we are enjoying our victory a little, and then we focus on Serbia in the morning tomorrow.”

Luka Loncar (CRO):

“I did not understand my exclusion; I was supposed to celebrate. Maye have been too energetic tough, but I was permanently excluded with a replacement. Congratulations to my teammates for this amazing match. We played very well, we fought like this was our last match. We have come to the semi-finals where we might repeat our today’s effort and try to win against the biggest opponent in the World Championship.”

Alessandro Campagna, head coach (ITA)

„We were always focused on the match and we had the chance to lead it short time. We could have equalized when we were under one goal and we were unlucky missing some clear chances. We played a terrible third period. I think that my team is skilled enough to reach in a better place. We will work together and I am sure that this will be the right way to reach something important.”

Nicholas Presciutti (ITA)

„We didn’t care enough with the offensive actions, especially in the third period when the opponent scored two goals destroying our efforts to equalize the match. Of course I’m a bit disappointed with the final result but we have to recover soon, so we can start to think about the next match.”
