Liliána Szilágyi (HUN), 58.00, after 100m butterfly preliminary round:
"Swimming first is never easy. Finishing in 58.00 is not bad especially in the morning. I need some more time to get used to the pool and to assess my form really, but I enjoyed the heat a lot, the atmosphere in the grandstands is great already in the morning. I am looking forward to the next rounds. Recently I have been preparing in the US and we have applied a new method so that is why it is hard to assess my form as of now. What matters now is that I could make it to the semi-finals. I will do my best in the afternoon, as well, and we shall see if it takes me to the finals or not."
Ákos Kalmár (HUN), 03:51.35, finished 22th in 400m freestyle:
"Unfortunately I could not improve my personal best yet I am still happy about the result considering that it was a morning heat. The atmosphere is amazing, home crowd is cheering on us at all times. Duna Arena is fantastic, it certainly is a world class facility. Bumping into Olympic and world championships here and there is a special experience for me considering that it is my first senior international tournament. Debuting in the international field in front of the home crowd makes it even more remarkable."
László Cseh (HUN), 23.41, after 50m butterfly preliminary round:
"As a first result in 50m it is actually brilliant. Being roared on by the home crowd is amazing. I am happy I could make it to the semi-finals but I feel I have some more potential to unlock so I will try and do my very best in the afternoon and upcoming heats as well."
Ajna Késely (HUN), 04:06.48, after she reached the final in 400m freestyle:
"The home crowd roaring on me is extremely energising. I didn't really feel exhausted in the first 300 metres, yet the last 100 metres were highly demanding and I did my best to swim as if it was already the final. My father and I agreed that I would try and trick myself into feeling as if it was the afternoon already. I am indescribably happy about breaching my previous personal best. I hope to further improve it soon."
Dániel Gyurta (HUN), 1:00.76, after he reached the final in 100m breaststroke:
"I felt I did a good job in the first leg, but I rushed a bit in the second one. We will have to watch and analyse my performance with my coach. My main event is the 200m so this heat served as a good opportunity to warm up for that basically. Anyway, I hope to make it to the semi-finals on Thursday. "
Women's 4X100m freestyle relay:
I wish to do a great job in the 200m medley final and I strive to do my very best. My goal is to see a "q" next to my name but I know it won't be a piece of cake.
Obviously I feel sorry about the relay, it is really hard to decide when the programme features individual as well as team events, especially because one of my main events takes place today as well, yet I don't want to let the girls down. We put our hopes in the relay and we could beat the Italian team, which is quite an accomplishment. When I saw I was racing next to Federica Pellegrini I pulled myself together and did everything to be faster. I could do so, it's a pity it was not enough though.
Finishing 9th and missing out on the semi-final is not something we wished for, of course. Yet we had a good time, we enjoyed it a lot and this result is quite good considering the composition of the relay team. Everyone did a good job, it was quite ok for a start now but we are sorry about the placement. The audience was amazing, in the last 70-80 metres they started roaring on me and it pushed me ahead. In the upcoming heats I hope to swim at least twice in the afternoon, we will see in which events I will manage to do so.
Men's 4X100m freestyle relay:
The audience is incredible, they practically intimidate our opponents who are absolutely aware that we are cheered on. They definitely contributed to the result, credits to them for at least one second. The 100m event is not long enough to apply tactics really, the only focus is to keep up with others because if you get behind, waves from the sides will hinder you significantly.
We have put all our power into swimming but we will try to recover for the afternoon heats. We are absolutely happy that we could make it to the finals. Come what may. One thing is for sure, we will further improve the national record.
