Brazil-South Africa 10-5 (3-1, 2-1, 3-1, 2-2)

Eduardo Abla, Head Coach (BRA)

„The ladies were trying to work on the mistakes they had made during the past few games. They learned the lesson and put it into practice. It was useful especially for the younger team members because we have a very young team , it is great that we could win.”

Victoria Chamorro, GK (BRA)

„We’ve arrived for the game very confidently, although the past few days we had to fight really hard, today we wanted to leave the pool with some good experience.  It was the first match we did win. We had a few mistakes here and there both offensively and defensively, but the end result is what matters really, and we won.”

Samuel Gareth (RSA)

„It was not our best performance at the World Championships, we did better sometimes. I thought we had a chance to beat Brazil but we never executed our plans well enough against our opponent. In fact they had an easy win against us since we did not apply the structure which could have led us to victory. I think execution is a big issue, when we have opportunities, we have to execute them correctly and that will give ourselves a chance to win.”

Nicola Barrett, 11 (RSA)

„The match was really dificult, the opponent played very physical. We didn’t expect this result, but there was some miscommunication. We tried our hardest, so we need to move on and look ahead. This whole event is awesome, it has definitely been the highlight of my life. Coming from a small country like South Africa, the crowd’s support is so incredible.”

W26

Japan-Kazakhstan 17-8 (3-1, 2-1, 7-4, 5-2)

Hideo Katho, head coach (JPN):

„In my opinion, the power of the Kazakhs' shots was not really strong enough. We are aware that Japan has weaknesses, also, so our task is to find them and fix them to get ready for the next game.”

Yumi Arima, 2 (JPN):

„After the previous matches I focused on shots today, I'm glad I could turn four of them into goals. The fact that we have been winning this day is delightful, but we cannot be satisfied with this result, we should be constantly improving and improving.”

W27

Canada – New Zealand 16-3 (5-1, 4-1, 3-0, 4-1)

Angela Winstanley-Smith, head coach (NZL):

„It was a tough match and Canada really came out to play. Of course, I’m disappointed, we didn’t execute our game as expected. I’m really proud of the girls that we managed to put ourselves into the position to play that match. That’s positive.”

Elyse Lemay-Lavoie (CAN):

„It was an easy game for us, we played well on both ends of the pool. We just have to keep going and prove with a win the next game. We have to play very together and fight as a team until the end of the game. It will be a tough game, we have to play agressive, we will have to play our best game, with the best defense and be strong.”

Theoharis Pavlidis, head coach (CAN):

"I am very satisfied with my team, because the girls did exactly what we have practiced and it is very important for me to see things we practiced in the game. We were very serious from the beginning, we followed our system, and after that everything was easy for us. The team of New Zealand is not from the top of the world, so I cannot say it was a too strong opponent for us but the next one will be very strong. We will play against the Hungarians at Budapest, and it is very difficult for us, but I think we will enjoy the game."

W28

China-Spain 5-13 (2-1, 1-4, 1-5, 1-3)

Miguel Oca Gaia, head coach (ESP):

„We are satisfied with the result. It was a hard game. We started slow and we weren’t sharp enough. I’m satisfied with the team’s reaction to the bad start. At all moments we kept control of the game, our defense was great. The next match is going to be a completely different match, because Greece has really good players, they’re really organized, we’re going to have to give the best of us in order to win.”

Marta Bach Pascual (ESP):

„For us the championship started today, this match was like a final for us. We are really confident, and had the control on the defensive end. There’s a really high level at this part of the tournament. Obviously it’s not going to be easy. If we play like we did today, I’m sure it’s going to go our way.”

Dali Gong, head coach (CHN):

"One of the reasons why China has lost the game is that the Chinese team is made up of young players, who do not have that many experiences yet. "

W29

Netherlands-Russia 10-11 (2-4, 4-3, 2-3, 2-1) - UNDER PROTEST

Amo Havenga, head coach (NED):

„The situations is that we put a protest on the decision of the referees concerning this time-out. The Russian couch called the time-out in the moment when we were in posession of the ball, and if you see the regulations, that is a penalty for us but they gave the time-out for them. Now we try to recall the decision. They told us that tomorrow morning there will be an answer. I think we did not perform like we could have, it was not like the game we were supposed to play, we were not good enough.”

Nomi Stomphorts (NED):

„I feel really bad. I think we played well today, but we started very bad. You know, when you play against Russia, you have to be very careful. But we were not, that is why we lost it in the first 2 quarters; they scored too many goals. Then we had to fight for a comeback, which at the end we did, but it was not enough. I think we played against ourselves. We were always one second too late and started playing well too late. They had more fire in them, they seemed to want to win this game more than we did. We have a really great team and obviously we played for the medals. But this time they were better.”

Evgenii Berezin, assistant (RUS):

„We knew that this will be a hard match for us. Netherland has a great team, it is a miracle that we are able to play in the quarter finals, but that is the spirit of the Championships. The girls started really well, but later we lost the rhythm, we did not realized two or three goals, which gave a chance to the Netherlands to come up closer in result. At the end, we broke the strong and excelent defense of the Netherlands, and we scored and  defended our goal in the last minute. The most important is that we are now in the quater finals, and that we showed tonight what we are capable of.”

Ekaterina Prokofyeva (RUS):

„I did the best I could do, I did everything according to our plans. The Netherlands has a strong team, thus the game was strong as well. They wanted to make us follow their own rhythm. The Italian team is very strong, we know them, they also know us, so at the end it hopefully will be a great game.”

W30

France-Australia 2-16 (0-5, 0-4, 1-1, 1-6)

Florian Bruzzo, head coach (FRA):

„We lost this match but in the further rounds we'll fight just as if it was our first game. The girls tried to do what I asked from them but we were far away from the opponents' goal. We had no chance.”

Aurelie Battu (FRA):

„The Aussies were really offensive, we were constantly under pressure, it was hard to play against them. We lost tonight but we definitely have a future. I'm only nineteen years old and it's a great experience for me to be here.”

Athansios Kechagias, head coach (AUS):

„I wouldn’t say that any game is easy at this level, but we thought of this game as a challange which we came out on top. That’s what we’re always willing to do. It’s nice to see some of the younger girls step up and show what they are capable of doing, score some goals and make good decisions. There’s obviously a huge rivalry between us and the US because of certain games that we played in the past. They are the reigning champions so it’s going to be a really hard game for us. They’re in top condition at the moment. We’re going to prepare for that game in the next couple of days.”
