Gold medallist, Axel Reymond, FRA, 5:02:46.40
This was my fifteenth 25 km race. In the beginning I tried to keep up with the lead pack, but after a while I had to change my tactic because I was left behind. This is a really long distance, truly exhausting. While racing, I was thinking about those 120 km trainings I had been doing the weeks before.
Silver medallist, Matteo Furlan, ITA, 5:02:47.00
I’m very happy because I finished third behind Ruffinie and Meyer two years ago, and my main goal was to step forward. Five kilometres from the finish I failed to get a good position by a buoy, that was decisive. There was a big fight in the finish line between me, Ruffini and Drattcev, I tried to do my best. The weather was too hot, but that did not disturb me really.
Bronze medallist, Evgenii Drattcev, RUS 5:02:49.80
Before the competition I aimed for victory, but obviously I’m really happy about this bronze medal. It was terribly hot, the weather conditions made the race harder, so we had to cope with some difficulties. I have been here to Balatonfüred before, I like this place.
