Russia decided not to participate in this routine, as well as the host country Hungary. Ukraine one of the main favourites, aiming to earn their first non-bronze medal at the tournament. Spain reached the final despite their biggest synchro star Ona Carbonell was just in the reserves for the Team Free Combination routine.

The Ukrainian national team finished second place in the preliminaries, right after China, with 93.1667 points.

“We still need to watch our performance – we just saw a couple of moments on the screens, so we can’t really judge it, as we need to analyse everything. We made some small mistakes, but we will try to avoid them in the final and to show even a better performance.” – concluded the girls right after they saw their score from the judges.

“We don’t want to predict our chances in the final, as we are superstitious. We definitely will work hard to deliver the best possible result.”

“It can be an infinite process to work on a program in a team. This program is a new one, for the World Series we went with the old one, but here we decided to try the new routine. We started to practice it around six months ago and we fully focused on it around one month before the tournament – we have trained around 10-14 hours per day to make it as perfect as possible. As the routine is a free combination, we used the music from the Beauty and the Beast, also we had some acrobatic elements in it, duets and solo performances as well, so it is a really complex program.”

“The organisation of the tournament is outstanding, the place is amazing, we have a castle right here for us. Sometimes it is a bit difficult, as we have a lot of competitions, you have to perform in the morning and then in the evening as well. The weather is hot here and it’s making it even harder for us. The schedule is busy, Anna Voloshyna finished the duet at 11 PM and then she had to wake up around 5 AM to prepare for the solo final, which was held next day in the morning.”

Spain finished fifth place, their final score was 90.2000.

“We are in the final, but there are still things that we need to improve. We will train before it, even more, to make everything better. We are not thinking about the possible position we can take in the final, we just focus on getting better.” – said the members of the team.

“It’s our first time in Budapest – we can say, that the city is very beautiful with lots of good places, we enjoy spending our time here.”
