W17 Group C

Japan-France 8-9 (3-3, 0-3, 3-1, 2-2)

Florian Bruzzo, head coach (FRA):
„Since the strength of the Japanese team is the counterattack, we decided to defend our territory and the final result proves that it was a good tactic. I am very satisfied with my team, they did strictly as we discussed. They played a perfect match.”

Estelle Millot (FRA):
„I scored four goals and I’m happy about it, but it was mostly the team’s merit. I enjoyed the match a lot in this great atmosphere. It was a little bit surprising that so many French fans were here, they helped us a lot at the end of the game. It was an important battle, we thought that we had nothing to lose, we focused only on this match and on victory.”

Katho Hideo, head coach (JPN)

„We lost. We had very very poor shots. Since our players are light in terms of weight, therefore we should have given pressure to the opponent by staying in the passing lane but we kept staying inside.”

Inaba Akari (JPN):
„I did a shooting mistake so I am upset. We did our best to win, we put all our strength in it. It was a really nice experience and the French players were polite and friendly.

W19 Group D

Australia-Greece 8-11 (2-2, 3-3, 2-3, 1-3)

Athansios Kechagias, head coach (AUS):
„I think that we weren’t good enough, especially in our defense. Everyday here is different, though, some days are better than the others, so we are just going to move on, and give our best from now on.”

Keesja Gofers (AUS):
„It was a really tough game. In the second half we slowed down a little, and Greece did a real good job. Now, we are going to regroup and think about the knockout stage.”

Georgios Morfesis, head coach (GRE):
„It was a big and very important victory. It would be really unfair for this team to exclude because of one bad game with Russia. The team has a great potencial, and today in this match we really believed in ourselves. We had a plan and we managed to keep it in the whole match. Maybe we wanted to win more than Australia. I wish the best to them in the Championship.”

Alkisti Avramidou (GRE):
„It was a really nice experience, a really nice game. It was tough and we knew that it was our last chance. We did our best and I am really proud of my team.”

W20 Group D
Russia-Kazakhstan 15-6 (5-1, 3-2, 4-2, 3-1)

Alexander Gaidukov, head coach (RUS):
„The Kazakh team is very good and they show that they are worthly opponent and strong participiant on this World Championship. Tonight we will find out who is our opponent in crossover stage, both teams, the Hungarian and the Dutch are great and have been playing together for years, so we will see. It will be interesting.”

Ekaterina Prokofyeva (RUS):
„Great game, great team, but we were better today. In this moment I have nothing to say about next match, tonight we will se who will be better in match betwen Hungary and the Netherlands, so I will know more tonight.”

Assem Mussarova (KAZ):
„We wanted to play better today but we couldn’t. The match was really tough, in strong rythm. Russia is great team and I wish them good luck for the forecoming matches.”

W21 Group A

Italy-China 15-8 (3-2, 4-3, 6-0, 2-4)

Fabio Conti, head coach (ITA)
„It’s out of our hands who we play next, until that we just practice and wait. For us, every opponent is the same, when you reach the quarterfinals of a world championships, every team is on a high level. We have to concentrate on ourselves and work hard.”

Rosaria Aiello (ITA):
„It was really hot, but we didn’t feel it in the pool, adrenalin takes over there. This is my fifteenth time in Budapest and it is still beautiful.”

Dali Gong, head coach (CHN):
„I cannot really express my feelings but I think we did what we could. Our opponent was very strong, it was a tough game. We will try to be better next time.”

Guannan Niu (CHN):
„I think that the match was really good, but next time we will try to be better. I think Budapest is really beautiful and the weather is very nice.”

W22 Group A

Brazil-Canada 6-16 (2-4, 2-4, 1-4, 1-4)

Theoharis Pavlis, head coach (CAN):

„I feel satisfied with the result. Our goal was to be in the first two teams of the group. We’ll have an easier cross game. Our aim is to get into the top eight teams. We played with a great difference, except for the first half of the game. Generally I’m satisfied.”

Monika Eggens (CAN):

’We did what we wanted to do. We wanted to come up with a win and to get ready for the next round, which is supposed to be an important game and I think we did what we had to.”

Raquel Sa (BRA):

„I’m not fully OK because we didn’t play a 100% game. We made mistakes when it came to defense. We tried many things we couldn’t take through so I don’t think it was a good game. We’ll train hard and try to fix our mistakes.”

Eduardo Abla, head coach (BRA):

„We lost because we have a young team. Our best player made three mistakes in the first part so she was exclused really soon. Without her in the team, we lost our chance for a better result.”

W23 Group B
New Zealand-United States 7-22 (2-6, 1-6, 2-6, 2-4)

Angela Winstanley-Smith, head coach (NZL):

„The girls made me proud a 100%. America’s outstanding. They respected us tonight, they played hard but the girls didn’t give up. They kept going. I’m really proud of them. The Hungarian fans cheering for us were awesome. The whole event, the arena, everything is incredible so thanks to the organisers.”

Adam Krikorian, head coach (USA):

„Offensively we were good, but I was not that happy with our defense, on our 5 on 6 defense. Hopefully we will use the training to get a little better defensively in the quarter final game.”

Nicole Lewis (NZL):

„I think we played hard and with pride. I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play with the girls.”

Gabrielle Stone (USA):

“New Zealand is a great team and we wanted to come out with a great defense and work on our play. Australia is a really great team, too, with good shooters, so we want to focus on our defense in the next game.”

W23 Group C

Netherlands-Hungary 8-10 (2-2, 1-1, 2-4, 3-3)

Arno Havenga, head coach (NED):

„We played good the first two quarters. After that we were encountering more difficulties with the finishing. It was physically a tough game. Towards the end we had not that much energy left and it was tough to get through it. Now we need to take some time to focus our minds on Russia. They have a good team. We played a few times against them already this season, we didn’t win but we also didn’t lose. It is going to be a tensive game.

Lieke Klaassen (NED):

„We expacted this to be a tough game. Last season we played a few times against the Hungarians, and these were close games. We knew this would be the most spectacular match. The Hungarians are very strong in the counter and the crowd was strongly against us. Now we hope to reach the semi finals. We are going to try all our best for that.“

Attila Bíró, head coach (HUN):

„We expected ourselves to win but the Dutch team proved to be a tough opponent to beat. Our good defence was the key to our succes. Edina Gangl was helped by the blocs at the beginning and she showed us a great performance later on too. I hope that we will remain concentrated in the further rounds, so far we’re in the top eight teams. Our cheering audience helped us a lot, the whole night was phenomenal and magnificent.”

Ildikó Tóth (HUN):

„When we heard about eight thousand viewers shouting that the Dutch cannot score three goals we started to believe it too. Our audience was amazing. A big thank you to them. I always thought that we would feel even when our supporters’ hearts beat at home, but this was something unbelievable here...There was a great deal of energy at the scene. In the second half we started to believe that we can win this match and our self-confidence lead us to victory.”

Anna Illés (HUN):

„This wasn’t an easy match anyway.. I’m happy we got relatively few goals, that’s always a primary objective. We got away with the one on one fights, even if Keszi’s nose started to bleed after one of these clashes. The ten goal victory speaks for itself.”

Barbara Bujka (HUN):

„As expected in advance, it was pankration, but we got away with it on the winning side. We knew who we faced, what they were about to play, everybody was prepared both strategically and physically. I’m happy that we’ve got a three day break now, that’s good news for us. We face off Canada next, we shouldn’t underestimate them. It was a tie when we played with them at the World League, they got to the final that time. It will be an exciting game. We’re looking forward to it.”

W24 Group B

South Africa-Spain 3-17 (1-4, 0-6, 1-2, 1-5)

Samuel Gareth, head coach (RSA):

"We knew that Spain would win this game, they are clearly competing to win the tournament, and we just hope to play as well as we can.”

Megan Schooling (RSA):

"I think realistic result were born. The Spanish are very good competitive side, we are still learning. But I enjoy this tournament, because this is one of the best organized tournament I have ever been. It’s fantastic.”

Miguel Oca Gaia, head coach (ESP):

"We used this match to get ready for the next one, against China, because this is where the championship really starts. China has quick and strong players and they really play together as a team.”

 Sandra Domene Perez (ESP):

"I feel really satisfied, because I just made my debut so I never played before with the olders. We have to keep improving and winning.”
