Heat and the increasing water temperature might be decisive factors in 25 km races. As a result of hot weather the temperature of Lake Balaton is increasing, posing a great challenge for competitors in the last and most difficult open water swimming heat to be held on Friday.
According to head coach Gábor Gellért the key might be repeated refreshment. He added that he believes the 4 Hungarian swimmers (2 women and 2 men) would manage to overcome difficulties. Gellért told high air temperature is a minor problem, way more swimmers may be affected by high water temperature. „23 degrees Celsius is ideal for open water swimmers, the warmer the water is, the more beneficial it is for shorter swimmers of lower heart rate” the expert explained.
